NFL '20 Season Thread

Humiliating and pathetic: Starting the season 11-0 and ending it going 1-5. The Browns and Ravens play on. That stings, but those teams earned it.

The grocery checker yesterday morning asked me if I thought the Steelers were going to the Super Bowl. I said 'probably not', but they should win at least one game. Oops.

PHI Eagles Head Coach Pederson was fired. Look for them to hire a "QB Whisperer," to try and salvage Wentz's career.

Love comes and goes but FreeOnes is forever.
The worse rule in all of sports (football)... offensive player going in for a touchdown, fumbles the ball out of the endzone.
Happened just recently in the Cleveland-Kansas City NFL divisional playoff game.
Rule states, undeservedly, that when this happens the defensive team gets the ball on the 20 (ruled a touchback). But why?
The defense never took the ball away... they didn't recover, they didn't intercept it.
It would make more sense if the offense retained possession, with the ball placed where the player lost control of it, more in line with what occurs
when a player fumbles the ball out of bounds (i.e., not the endzone).

Why doesn't the NFL change this ridiculous rule? 😕
They have a rules commission that meets every year during the off-season.

Someone should start a fan drive to overturn this. Any ideas for a hashtag??

Actually it should not have mattered as the defensive player lead with his helmet & I believe hit the player in the head, so it should have been a 15 yard penalty or half the distance to the goal and 1st down, 2 big no nos from the league who's top priority is player safety. As for a hashtag, I have no social media but there are many like # NoFunLeague or I hate to say this but it happens it all sports including college I know my team is part of the hashtag #TheLeagueDoesNotLikeMyTeam. Certain teams seem to have some favorable calls or no calls. It is all good and I am not trying to start nothing just saying. Really there are numerous reasons and plays that have an impact on the game's outcome.
Worse rule, depends, lets say you are punting near your endzone the ball is hiked over your head most of the time the punter will kick it out of the endzone or pick it up and run out of the back of the endzone. Resulting in a safety for 2 points for the other team where as if the defensive team recovers the ball in the endzone 6 points. Smart play or bad rule or both. Same thing as if the ball goes over the quarterback's head he does the same thing. One last one sorry but Tom Brady fumbled when Charles Woodson hit him but on spot we had a new rule "the tuck rule".

Philadelphia hired ex-IND OC N. Sirianni. *Could* be a good hire; Wentz did well under Frank Reich, current IND HC, and ex-PHI OC.

I will show my age, but I remember the Browns losing in '88 because of "The Fumble". I was was watching it with a Browns fan and he was just devastated as it would have been their first Super Bowl. After the play, the Broncos took the intentional safety.

DET QB M. Stafford to be traded!!

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero said the Lions and Matthew Stafford have agreed to part ways this offseason.

It appears the team won't fight to keep Stafford aboard for a full rebuild. Pelissero reports Stafford and the team made a mutual decision that the Lions would trade away their franchise QB this offseason after 12 seasons. QB-needy teams like the 49ers, Washington, Panthers, Colts, Jets, and Broncos will probably show interest in acquiring Stafford, though the Lions' price isn't known. Stafford has two years and $43 million left on his contract, "a bargain price for a quarterback who is still playing at a high level," Pelissero said. Stafford will be a marked upgrade for the pass catchers on whichever team he lands on this offseason. Detroit is (very) likely to use their No. 7 NFL draft pick to select Stafford's successor, and perhaps move up even further to secure one of the draft's top signal callers. The trade would likely happen before the fifth day of the 2021 league year in March, when Stafford is due a $10 million roster bonus.

Stafford has been itching himself for years. He wasn't happy with the play calling he was asked to make. He was frustrated with the Lions' lack of...everything. He's a friend of Kershaw's over in L.A. But the Rams are sacrificing a hell of a lot. No First Rounders for seven years; a reliable and proven BUT 33-year-old QB; hey...give Detroit credit. If you're Ms. Hamp and Co., get all you can if you give up your biggest toy. Goff has a lot of contract baggage to carry over and Snead saw an opportunity, but it's costly. Dunno. Wait and see. Normally a championship team builds around a QB before building up the QB. It's not the other way around. In the stretch, I think Detroit makes out in this.

Well, it's halftime in Super Bowl LIV. And the Chiefs have the Bucs right where they want them: the Bucs have a 15-point lead. Damn...Bruce Arrians should know better than to go into halftime with a two-touchdown lead against Mahomes. Not good for the Jolly Rogers.
